Christine Ashimwe is a Rwandan health advocate, mentor, and motivational speaker. She joins the Steering Committee as its inaugural patient representative.

Ashimwe holds a bachelor’s degree in life sciences focusing on environmental science from Cadi Ayyad University, Marrakech, Morocco; a postgraduate diploma in gender and development from the University of Rwanda’s Center for Gender Studies. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Global Health Delivery at the University of Global Health Equity.

Ashimwe is the Founder and Executive Director of Rwanda Clot Awareness Network (RCAN). Christine founded RCAN in March 2016 after suffering from blood clots in her right leg and both lungs in December 2015. She went on to suffer from recurrent blood clots in her lungs and brain. However, this did not divert her from her path of educating others about thrombosis.

In October 2018, Ashimwe was awarded the inaugural World Thrombosis Day 2018 Ambassador of the Year Award. She is a mother of three daughters and is passionate about thrombosis education and advocacy, especially for pregnant women. She resides with her family in Kigali, Rwanda.
